Breakfast is prepared by the Sunny Office team. For lunch everyone usually takes care of themselves and in the evenings someone in the group cooks for everyone. What is the surf like?
- There is pretty much always something to surf in the Santa Cruz area
- Most the waves are right hand reefs and point breaks that break in deep water. There are also a few good beachbreaks and a couple of lefts breaks.
- The nearest surf spot Getchell’s street is a 2 minutes walk from the house. It’s a user friendly reef break that usually breaks from November to May.
- We recommend the iconic Steamer Lane for advanced surfers.
- The surfspots in town are usually a bit crowded during the day but if you manage to get up early, you can definitely find some quiet time.
- There are numerous spots north and south of Santa Cruz that are pretty consistent and uncrowded
- Don’t worry about the sharks. They are well fed (;
-
What about surfing for beginners?
- You can walk or bike to Cowells beach for long gentle rolling waves. It’s one of the best beginner beach in California.
- The other area for beginners is located on the east side of Santa Cruz, approximately a 15 min car ride from the Surf office. That area is called Pleasure Point, may be because it’s a pleasure to surf there (;
- There a few local surf schools and we recommend you to get in touch with Santa Cruz surfschool: www.santacruzsurfschool.com. It’s 90 USD per group class (2h) and 120 USD for a private lesson (1h)
- We also have a few boards and wetsuits for rent
